Design-Build Project Awarded for Sterling Natural Resource Center

Balfour Beatty, Arcadis and Ruhnau Clarke Architects team up to build East Valley Water District’s New Water Treatment Plant.

Highland, California: A reception was held after the East Valley Water District Board meeting on July 25, 2018 celebrating the selection of a design-build partner for Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC). The water treatment facility, located on the east side of Del Rosa Drive, will produce reuse water to recharge the natural groundwater aquifiers. The design is focused on reliability, robustness, efficiency and flexibility and has the ability to initially treat 8 million gallons of water per day.

The treatment facility will serve as a community center supporting education, entertainment and leisure. Special features include:

  • Satellite Payment and Customer Service Center

  • Community event and multi purpose space

  • Outdoor community event space

  • Amphitheater

  • Sustainable garden, picnic areas, and walking trails

  • Space for future educational partnerships with the San Bernardino City Unified School District

“This is really a community project,” says Roger Clarke, President of Ruhnau Clarke Architects, “with space for gathering and connection and a wealth of opportunities for educational outreach.”

The District selected Balfour Beatty, Arcadis and Ruhnau Clarke Architects as partners for the design-build based on design which reflects the heritage of the District, understanding of the community, and alignment with SNRC’s mission of Making Every Source a Resource.

“The award for the design build contract is the culmination of four years of visioning and planning with the East Valley Water District to realize a facility that goes beyond waste water treatment and furthers the District’s commitment to leadership, partnership and stewardship,” stated Roger Clarke.

Construction on Sterling Natural Resource Center will begin in late 2018 and is scheduled to complete in 2021.
