Yesterday evening, Beaumont Unified School District (USD) held their first ribbon cutting ceremony in 10 years. The newest addition to the Beaumont USD family is Starlight Elementary School located on the corner of Starlight Avenue and Cougar Way. Construction for the school took 10 short months and opened just in time for the new school year on August 8, 2018.
The school sits on a 12-acre lot and has five wood frame buildings totaling 78,000 SF. The buildings are accentuated with fiber cement paneling and pops of color to signify the different grade levels.

The interior design is inspired by Beaumont USD’s World Language Program that will now be housed at Starlight Elementary. Each building represents a different continent and the interiors reflect local countries and languages of that region.

As Board President, David Sanchez, stated at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, “The state-of-the-art facility is from public dollars, for public use, and another milestone for Beaumont Unified School District.” Thanks to Measure Z funds, 836 students are able to attend this vibrant school and fill the seats of 38 active learning classrooms. Additionally, the openness and visibility of the campus allows staff to see from one end of the school to the other and ensure student safety for many years to come.
